Stage fright

Breathe slowly and regularly, this will help you to remain calm and retain your composure. Take your time and listen carefully to the questions asked. Do not try to shoehorn your prepared answers to fit the question. If you are struggling to answer a question, don’t panic and do not try to bluff. Its always better to explain that while you haven’t yet had that particular experience, you have had similar experience and go on to offer an answer. This will demonstrate your honesty and ability to think on your feet.

Employers don't expect the perfect candidate for a position; they are simply looking for the individual with the best potential to fill their vacancy, so it’s often attractive to employers to show enthusiasm to learn new skills to fulfil a position. It demonstrates a commitment and character which will inspire confidence. Just don’t make it your answer to every question!

Take time to consider the question before you answer, reasonable thinking time is acceptable in an interview environment.

Always keep your answers relevant to the question and be sure that they are not too lengthy and that you are not rambling.

Finally, try to enjoy the experience, keep smiling and stay positive; even if you don’t get the job this time, every interview is invaluable in honing your skills and building your confidence.
